Trivium are stepping into a world of Japanese horror, haunted ambition and very large riffs. The Florida quartet have announced their eleventh studio album, Crown In The Grave, arriving on 20 November 2026 via Roadrunner Records, and released its title track alongside a new video.

The announcement also comes with a sizeable date for UK fans: Alexandra Palace on 3 April 2027, part of a UK and Ireland run with In Flames, Paleface Swiss and VOLA.

A darker world for Trivium

The album’s creative starting point was Akira Kurosawa’s Throne of Blood, the director’s adaptation of Macbeth set in feudal Japan. From there, bassist Paolo Gregoletto’s interest in Japanese horror and cinema from the 1950s to the 1970s helped shape a ghostly atmosphere running through the music, lyrics and artwork.

According to Gregoletto, the aim was to take everything the band have learned and find fresh ways to present it, giving the record an identity of its own while retaining the elements that make Trivium recognisable.

The title track introduces that approach through a gradual build of layered guitars, leading into galloping riffs, substantial solos and a combination of harsh and melodic vocals. Its accompanying video, directed by Pavel Trebukhin, draws on Japanese Noh theatre, placing its characters inside a smoke-filled, post-apocalyptic dojo as they prepare for a confrontation. Subtle surroundings for an unsubtle amount of metal.

New drummer, familiar firepower

Crown In The Grave was created at The Hangar, Trivium’s own studio in Orlando, with returning producer Josh Wilbur and Jacob Hansen handling the mix for the first time.

It also marks drummer Alex Rüdinger’s first studio album with the band, joining Matt Heafy, Corey Beaulieu and Paolo Gregoletto. Heafy credits Rüdinger with making a significant contribution to the songwriting as well as the drum performances.

Heafy also describes a change in his own approach, having addressed anxiety and other personal struggles and rediscovered the enjoyment of performing without demanding perfection from himself at every show. That renewed freedom forms part of the band’s outlook heading into this chapter.

Trivium’s 2027 UK and Ireland dates

Trivium will headline the UK and Ireland shows, with In Flames as special guests and Paleface Swiss and VOLA opening throughout.

The wider European tour continues through April and into May. Trivium and In Flames will share headline billing across most mainland European dates, with In Flames taking the headline slot in Scandinavia.

Crown In The Grave is available to pre-order, with CD and several vinyl editions announced. Tickets for the tour are on sale now.
