Bokassa have announced their fifth album, Anomalies, due on 12 March 2027 through their own Kings of Stonerpunk Records. The Norwegian trio have also released new single “Cop Out” and confirmed a headline tour, including London’s The Black Heart on 17 April and Southampton’s The Joiners on 20 April.

“Cop Out” finds the band leaning into their metallic hardcore roots, with a dose of thrash and very little patience for the music industry’s more embarrassing habits. Its targets include empty protest lyrics, bands overstaying their welcome and the endless scramble to turn everything into social media content.

“It’s about quitting while you’re ahead, before you become something you despise,” says vocalist Jørn Kaarstad, taking aim at expensive VIP meet and greets and TikTok dances along the way. He would rather spend his time discovering pizzas he hasn’t tried yet. Fair priorities.

Following 2024’s All Out Of Dreams, Anomalies was produced by Adrian Bushby (Foo Fighters, Muse, The Darkness) and mastered by George Perks (Enter Shikari, Skindred). The record brings together the punk, metal and rock strains that Bokassa have folded into their own stonerpunk sound, stretching from hardcore and death metal to desert rock and powerpop.

The contrast between “Cop Out” and the mellower first single, “Doesn’t Matter If You Love It Here”, offers an early glimpse of that range. For Kaarstad, the album title reflects a band that has never quite belonged to one scene: “We’ve never really fit in with anyone.”

Having shared stages with Metallica, Mastodon, Clutch and Judas Priest, Bokassa will take Anomalies on the road across Norway, the UK and mainland Europe next spring. Limited vinyl and CD editions are available to pre-order.
