British heavy metal legends Saxon have released “Medusa”, the second single from their upcoming studio album Gods of Thunder, arriving on 22 January 2027 via Silver Lining Music.

The band have also announced a new run of European dates for 2027 and revealed that Armored Saint will join them as special guests on the previously announced UK and Ireland leg of their Gods of Thunder – World Tour.

Inspired by the Gorgon of Greek mythology, whose gaze could turn mortals to stone, “Medusa” brings its ancient tale to life with a killer riff, classic heavy metal power and the unmistakable voice of Biff Byford.

“A step into the world of Greek mythology ‘Medusa’, a god who could turn you to stone with a glance! Epic metal, epic story! Enjoy,” says Byford.

“Medusa” follows the release of the album’s title track, “Gods of Thunder”.

A New Album and a World Tour

Produced by Biff Byford and mixed by Andy Sneap, Gods of Thunder promises the powerful performances and storytelling that have long defined Saxon’s sound.

The album will be available on vinyl, CD, digitally and in exclusive bundles. For more information, visit Saxon’s official website.

To celebrate the release of “Medusa”, the band have also launched a competition to win a signed guitar inspired by the single. The artwork was created by Peter Sallai, with official “Medusa” merchandise also available.

Fans will have another chance to meet the band around the album’s release, as Biff Byford, Doug Scarratt and Brian Tatler will take part in a series of HMV signing sessions across the UK.

The Eagle Returns

Saxon’s 2027 tour begins in the UK and Ireland in February, with Armored Saint joining them as special guests. The run includes shows in Southampton and London, before the band head across Europe in March.

All UK and Ireland dates will feature Saxon’s Castles & Eagles production, including the return of their iconic eagle. The giant stage prop spans twelve metres with its wings fully extended and comes equipped with landing lights and lighting effects as it soars above the band.

The production will also appear at selected European shows in Brussels, Zürich, Cologne and Tilburg.

“We’re bringing the gods of thunder tour across to Europe, it’s gonna be awesome! Can’t wait to open the heavens and bring on the metal,” says Byford.
