Geoff Tate Announces Operation: Mindcrime III: Release Date, New Single “Power" & Exclusive Interview

Legendary heavy metal vocalist Geoff Tate has officially announced the release of Operation: Mindcrime III, the long-awaited continuation of one of the most influential concept albums in rock history. The album will be released on May 3rd, 2026, marking a new chapter in the iconic Operation: Mindcrime saga.

To celebrate the announcement, Tate has unveiled the first single, “Power”, giving fans an early taste of the album’s direction. The track blends a heavier, modern production with the storytelling depth that defined the original records. (Watch the video below.)

In an exclusive interview with us, Tate revealed why now is the right time to revisit the Mindcrime universe, explaining the creative evolution behind this third installment. He also shared details about the musicians involved in the project, including a diverse and international lineup that has helped shape the album’s sound.

“The first two Mindcrime records were really about Nikki… and I started thinking: who is Dr. X? We don’t really know him. He’s just this shadowy figure manipulating people.”
