Amon Amarth keep the momentum rolling. After surprising fans with the band's first-ever acoustic track, "Upphaf", the Swedish Viking metal giants have officially announced their 13th studio album, The Allfather Awakens, set for release on October 2 via Metal Blade Records.

Leading the charge is the explosive new single "Gjallarhorn", a classic slice of Amon Amarth that immediately feels destined to become a live favourite. Built around razor-sharp riffs, relentless pace and an anthemic chorus, the track dives deep into Norse mythology, telling the story of Odin's sacrifice of his eye at Mímisbrunnr in exchange for wisdom. It's a powerful contrast to the stripped-back atmosphere of Upphaf, proving once again that the band can explore new territory without losing the crushing sound that has defined them for more than three decades.

The album isn't a concept record, but all ten tracks are inspired by historical and mythological tales of war, sacrifice and honour, with Odin remaining the central figure throughout. Songs such as "Eight Legs of Thunder", "Kvasir's Blood", "We Rule the Waves" and "Die With a War Cry" promise another collection of epic Viking anthems.

For The Allfather Awakens, Amon Amarth also changed their songwriting process. Rather than waiting until touring had finished, the band wrote material while on the road before recording across two separate sessions with longtime producer Jacob Hansen in Denmark. Guitarist Olavi Mikkonen explained that the band focused on completing one song at a time, allowing every track to receive the attention it deserved. Sonically, they also returned to a more classic guitar sound by swapping modern 5150 amplifiers for Marshall amps.

The album artwork, once again created by Tom Thiel, features a striking portrait of Odin and continues the visual identity that has become synonymous with Amon Amarth's catalogue.

With over thirty years behind them, Amon Amarth remain one of metal's most enduring live forces. This autumn they'll debut a brand-new stage production inspired by Odin's legendary Golden Hall, bringing the world of The Allfather Awakens to life on stage throughout their UK and European tour.
